I've watched it happen to strangers.

It was never just me.

I have tried to describe it in a way that isn't ridiculous

and every attempt comes out ridiculous, so here it is plainly:

the light level in a room goes up when you come into it.

Not a metaphor. Not a compliment. An observation I have tested.

The temperature is the same. The bulbs are the same.

Something about the room is different and it is entirely you.

The ones who do it never know they're doing it.

That's most of the reason it works.

The moment somebody understands they've got it, it curdles into charm,

charm being the cheap version, and charm shows.

You have no idea. You have never had any idea.

Please continue having no idea for as long as possible.
