Who is responsible

Daniel L. Seidler, Denmark, is responsible for this website and for the Urban Decay game service (the “controller” under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). Contact: ThePostModernTruth@gmail.com. Email you send us is handled by Gmail (Google) and kept only as long as the conversation needs it.

When you visit

The site is served by Vercel (Vercel Inc., USA). To deliver pages and protect the site against abuse, Vercel processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time of the request. Its request logs for this site are kept for about an hour; we keep no logs of our own. Vercel is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Details: Vercel’s privacy notice.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

When you press play

The songs are hosted on SoundCloud (SoundCloud Global Limited & Co. KG, Germany). Pressing play works like this:

1. Your browser asks our own server for the song. Our server looks up where SoundCloud keeps the audio file, so SoundCloud’s feed service never sees your IP address for this step. Nothing about this is stored.
2. Your browser then streams the audio straight from SoundCloud’s content network (sndcdn.com). Like any web server, it receives your IP address and basic browser details. The request is made without cookies.

If our server is ever unavailable, the player falls back to SoundCloud’s public feed link directly, which works the same way but without step 1. Nothing is loaded from SoundCloud before you press play, and a session restored from your last visit stays silent until you do. Details: SoundCloud’s privacy policy.

Legal basis: playing the music you asked for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Artwork, waveforms and lyrics are copied from SoundCloud to this site when the library is updated, so browsing never contacts SoundCloud.

What is stored on your device

The site keeps a few preferences in your browser’s local storage. They are not cookies, they are never sent to any server, and you can delete them here at any time.

• tpmt.player: your queue, position, volume, shuffle and repeat, so you can pick up where you left off.
• tpmt.favs: songs you marked as favourites.
• tpmt.recent: the last 24 songs you played.
• tpmt.library: list or grid view in the library.
• tpmt.seenStreamNote: that you have seen the “audio streams from SoundCloud” note.

Urban Decay: the download and your game account

The Urban Decay page works like the rest of this site: no cookies, and everything on it comes from this domain. Its flashlight street, map and search are drawn in your browser and send nothing anywhere.

Downloading the launcher. The download button goes through a short link on this site to the game’s own server (Cloudflare Workers with Cloudflare R2 storage, run by us), which sends you the file. Cloudflare processes that request like any other web request.

Your game account. The launcher asks you to create an account so it can install and update the game and keep the leaderboard. The game’s server (a Cloudflare D1 database located in Western Europe) stores:

• your username, and your password only as a salted one-way hash (PBKDF2), never the password itself;
• when the account was created, and whether it has been banned for abuse;
• sign-in sessions, stored only as hashes, which run out after 30 days without use;
• the game statistics your game sends for the leaderboard, which are shown publicly next to your username.

We never ask for an email address or payment details. To stop people guessing passwords or mass-creating accounts, the server counts sign-up and sign-in attempts per IP address. Those counters are not yet cleared automatically; if you want yours removed, email us.

Your save games and settings stay on your own PC. To delete your account and its statistics, email us from any address with your username.

Legal basis: providing the game service you signed up for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in protecting it from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Analytics

None. We don’t run analytics of any kind, so we don’t know how many people visit. That’s fine.

Fonts and other files

All fonts (Instrument Serif, Inter, JetBrains Mono, Barlow and Barlow Condensed) are served from this domain. The site makes no requests to Google or any other font or script service.

Links to other sites

Links to SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube take you to those services, where their own privacy policies apply. We don’t add tracking parameters to our links.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, and ask for a copy in a portable format. Apart from an Urban Decay account, we hold almost nothing about you, so most requests are quick: write to ThePostModernTruth@gmail.com. For data processed by Vercel, Cloudflare (the game’s server) or SoundCloud, you can also contact them directly.

You can complain to a data protection authority. In Denmark that is Datatilsynet; you can also use the authority where you live.
