What it is
Every miss has a reason: stance, sway, cover, suppression. Rounds pass through bodies, hits stagger, and a gunshot is heard streets away. Combat is rare, short and usually a mistake.
Hunger, thirst and injuries you treat by hand. Searching takes time and makes noise. Loot is scarce, doors lock, lights draw attention, and the rain washes the blood away.
Squads march, fight, loot and regroup across the map whether you watch or not. Factions take streets and paint them. Hordes build from noise and roll through districts.
Deploy
A new game builds a whole city from a seed. Roll one and read the districts. This is a sketch; the game builds the real thing, street by street.

Suburbs
Where you wake up. Residential loot, sparse infected, dead streetlamps over long quiet closes.

Who holds the street
Every faction marks its ground. The marks move when the street changes hands, so a wall tells you whether to walk down it.

Military remnant
Hold the Ground Zero perimeter. Disciplined squads, the best gear, and no patience.

Organised gang
Run the rackets in the Yards and the Port. They expand, they extort, they mark what is theirs.

Scavenger bands
Everywhere, opportunistic, weak alone and dangerous in numbers. They take what you leave.

Infection cult
They worship the infected and leave the dead on display. Nobody can tell you what they want.

Neutral
The economy. Old Town and the roads between. They trade with anyone and hunt whoever robs them.
The infected
Four kinds, weighted by how dangerous the district is. None of them show a health bar. They just bleed.

Shambles on a lurch curve, slower than your walk. Dormant indoors by day, on the streets at night. Its bite rears back first: read it and step aside.

Twitches, then sprints. Outpaces a walking survivor, so you hear it before you see it.

230 health. Shrugs off knockback, and one bite takes a quarter of yours.

Swells and calls the horde from a block away. Kill it first or not at all.
Scavenge
Loot depends on the building, the room and the district. A careful search is slow and quiet. A quick one is fast, until something crashes to the floor.

A way out
A derelict workboat sits at a Port pier. Twelve kinds of part, scattered across the worst of the city, and a key in a harbour lockbox. Every repair makes noise. Drag the parts onto the boat, or click them.

Derelict. Nothing works.
