Hurry Is Not Speed

Twelve tabs open, none of them read,

five instruments, none of them played.

Started nine things by noon

and finished the day with nothing.

Motion everywhere. Motion is cheap.

Motion is what panic buys.

And from far enough away

they look exactly alike —

Hurry is not speed!

Frantic is not fast!

One's a body out of control,

one's a body that knows the road.

Slow is not the enemy —

slow is where the fast is made.

Hurry is not speed.

Watch the ones who actually move:

they look almost bored doing it.

No thrash, no sweat, no sprinting —

the hands just go where they've been sent.

That calm cost them a decade

of doing it badly on purpose.

So put the panic down and pick

one thing you'll still be doing next year —

Hurry is not speed!

Busy is not built!

You can burn a life at full throttle

and arrive at the same wall.

Slow is not the enemy —

slow is what the fast is built from.
